In this video, we will create a zoom-through screen transition in Wondershare Filmora. First, drop your footage on track 1 and find a suitable point to create a transition. Then split your clip after 20 frames of that point. Shift your clip to track 2.

00:35

Go to the "Mask" and select the "Draw Mask" option, and change the zoom-in level to 75%. Here, we have two options to create this transition. We will create it on the upper screen. Then, draw a mask around the screen. You can change point "Positions" by selecting "Invert" the mask.

00:53

Go to the starting point, turn on mask keyframes, and check anywhere you need to adjust while playing. Remember, do not add any mask points. Otherwise, it will affect your preview mask. Once you are done, drop the second footage on track 1. Go to the "Basic" and change "Rotation" if required. Decrease the "Scale" and adjust it inside the screen. Then change the "Zoom level" to "Fit" it. Now you can see we just put another footage inside the screen.

01:20

Go to the point where you have decided to start the transition. Turn on "Transform" keyframes for track 2 clip. Then, go about 10 frames forward and create a zoom-in into the screen using "Scale" and "Position." Then select the first keyframe on track 1 clip, and turn on keyframes. Then, go about 5 frames forward and adjust the "Scale" and "Position" of your footage according to the screen.

Then again, go 5 frames forward, and at this point, set the "Rotation" to 0, "X" and "Y" "Position" to 0, and "Scale" to around 100. Let's see the short preview.

01:55

Next, let me show you another way to create this effect in a complex video. Split this clip at 7 seconds and drop another footage on track 2. In this footage, you can see a moving object in front of the screen. Identify the point, make it the start point of the clip, and place it back at 7 seconds. Then, split the clip on an endpoint of the transition.

02:17

Then go to the "AI Tools," turn on "Smart Cutout," and draw a mask around the subject at the start. Go one frame forward and repeat the steps for a few frames. Then click "Start Smart Cutout," and it will track the subject automatically. "Invert" the cutout and click on "Save." Copy the footage and paste it on track 1. Select top footage and go to "Smart Cutout" and "Invert" the mask. Now, we have our subject in cutout form on the top layer, and it will create a kind of illusion.

02:46

Select the second footage, go to the "Mask," and select "Draw Mask." Place the Playhead forward where the backscreen is fully visible. Zoom in on the footage and create a "Mask" around the screen. "Invert" the mask. Now, you can see the mask is behind the subject. Shift both clips one track above. Drop forth footage on track 1. Go to the "Video" and fit it into the screen using "Scale" and "Position." Now, when you play your footage, you will see that footage is playing behind the subject.

03:15

Now pick a point to create a transition. Turn on the "Transform" keyframe for all three footage. Then, go about 10 frames forward and create a zoom-in effect on the track 2 clip. Now, use the same transform and "Position" value on the track 3 clip when you check both track 2 and 3 clips moving together. Now go 5 frames forward, create the zoom-in effect, and fit track 1 clip in the frame. After 5 frames, set all values to the default value. Split the clip at 11 seconds, and now let's see the final preview.

Zoom Through Screen Transition Filmora Tutorial

Preparation

What you need to prepare:

  • A computer (Windows or macOS)
  • Your video materials.
  • Filmora video editor
Step 1
Import the Media File and Choose the Transition Point

Launch Wondershare Filmora on your computer and click the "New Project" button from its main window. This will take you to the editing window, where you need to select the "Media" tab to import your files in it. Once the files are imported, drag and drop the main clip in the timeline. Choose a point at which you want to create a transition and split your clip a few frames ahead of that point.

Step 2
Draw a Mask and Adjust the Zoom Level

Move your clip to the second layer and apply the mask to your video. For this, you will need to choose the "Video" tab and click on the "Mask" option below it from the right-side panel. This will take you to further mask options, where you need to select "Draw Mask."

Following this, if your clip size is too small, adjust its zoom level by clicking on the “Preview Quality and Display Settings” icon in the preview panel. This will open up a dropdown menu from which you can click "Zoom Level" to adjust accordingly.

Step 3
Turn on Invert Mask and Set the Position of Mask Points

Draw the mask around your object and adjust its position per your requirements. Following this, turn on the "Invert Mask" option by scrolling down in the "Mask" tab and add the playhead at the starting point. Enable the mask keyframes and adjust them in the clip as necessary.

Step 4
Adjust the Scale and Position of the Second Clip

Add the second clip on the timeline you want to place at the desired point. Head toward the "Basic" option under the "Video" tab. From there, set the “Rotation” and “Scale” of the clip as per your requirements. After this, change the zoom level to ensure your video fits well on the screen.

Step 5
Insert Transform Keyframe and Create Zoom-In Effect

Turn on the "Transform" keyframe at the point where you want to add the transition. You can do this by accessing the settings under the "Basic" option of the “Video” tab. After this, move a few frames ahead and adjust the “Scale” and “Position” there to create the zoom-in effect.

Following this, select the first keyframe on the track and turn on its keyframes. Step 6
Use the Smart Cutout to Track the Motion of the Object

To add another clip in the video that has a moving object, the first thing you will need to do is split the previous clip at the required second. After this, add your third clip to the timeline, adjust its starting point, and split it at the end point where you want to add a transition.

import the next clip and split

Afterward, to track moving objects, head toward the "AI Tools" under the "Video" tab and turn on the "Smart Cutout.” This will take you to a new window where you need to draw the mask around your object in multiple frames. Once done, "Invert" the cutout and click the "Save" button. This will add the subject cutout in the upper layer of the timeline, which can be used to create the illusion.

Step 7
Draw the Mask at the Required Position and Enable the Invert Mask

Select the footage and choose the “Draw Mask” option from the “Mask” section under the “Video” tab. Following this, move the playhead to the desired place and zoom in on the footage to create the mask per your requirement. After this, invert the mask, and this will show you the mask behind the subject.

Step 8
Add the Final Clip and Make the Suitable Adjustments

Move both clips to one track above to add 4th footage to the timeline. Make adjustments in the “Scale” and “Position” options in the “Basic” section to fit the clip in the video. Doing this will make your footage play behind the subject.

After this, select the point where you want to create a transition and turn on the “Transform” keyframe for all the footage. Move a few frames ahead and use the “Scale” and “Position” to create the zoom-in effect. Now, complete the zoom-in effect using the same “Transform” and “Position” values on different frames. Finally, click the “Render Preview” option to see the final results.

Summary

To summarize, we have now learned how you can apply smooth transitions in your videos. Placing the object behind the moving subject is tricky; however, if you have Wondershare Filmora, nothing is impossible. Create appealing content such as zoom in effect by using this tool conveniently, and that too in no time.
