Virtual reality could be defined through the meaning of the words comprising it. Virtual would mean near and so reality refers to what we experience being a human being. And it could lead to a meaning of virtual reality as near reality. This might as well mean anything however it would refer usually to the specific type of emulating reality.

In a more detailed definition, virtual reality is considered as the use of computer technology in order to create certain simulated environment. It would place the user in the experience unlike with the tradition user interfaces. Users are immersed and could interact within 3D worlds rather than viewing a screen in front of them. Through stimulating as many senses as possible like hearing, vision, smell and touch, the computer is transformed to gatekeeper into the artificial world. And the only limits with regards to near-real virtual reality experiences would be the availability of the content as well as computing power.

And for a very simple definition, virtual reality would refer as an artificial environment which is created along with software and so presented into the user in a way that users suspend belief and then accepts it being a real environment. With regards to computer, it could be primarily experienced by two of the five senses which are the sound and the sight. Simply said, virtual reality entails presenting the senses along with the computer generated virtual environment which we could explore into some fashion.

How does virtual reality works?

There could be numbers of systems however they have some common features which include:

  • Set of goggles which control what your right and left eyes could see. Through providing different views slightly into every eye the brain would be fooled into thinking that the scene is considered to be 3D. Virtual chairs would look solid and more.
  • There are other wearable input devices that are used as gloves which detect the movements of the fingers. Once you tap or wiggle the fingers into the virtual control the computer would carry out the command like turning on the virtual television.
  • There would also be headphones in order to control what you hear.

And the other part would be a powerful computer which could create graphics and also sound within real time. The images might be projected into the walls and also the floor of the room as for the purpose of allowing you to walk around freely.

Applications of Virtual Reality

Most individuals are definitely familiar with the term virtual reality yet they are unsure about the uses of the said technology. Gaming is considered as an obvious application of virtual reality as are virtual worlds however there could still be numbers of uses of this virtual reality. And most of them are unusual and more challenging as well. Virtual reality could then be used in the following:

  • Military
  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Fashion
  • Entertainment
  • Business
  • Sport
  • Engineering
  • Media
  • Telecommunications
  • Film
  • Construction
  • Programming Lanuges

There could be numbers of reasons why this virtual reality is considered to be popular to many all over the world. Aside from being a helpful tool being used in medicine it also works within numbers of other fields like it could be used in training programs in military, creating virtual models in the field of architecture, expanding prototypes for new vehicles and also developing video games. The main reason why there are numbers of big companies would want to make virtual reality products would be about its versatility.

Difference between Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

There is a fact that both the augmented reality and the virtual reality are two sides into the same coin. Augmented reality could be virtual reality along with one foot into the real world. Augmented reality would simulate artificial objects into the real environment while virtual reality would create artificial environment in order to inhabit.

In terms of augmented reality, the computer would use algorithms and sensors in order to determine the orientation and position of the camera. The AR technology would now render 3D graphics since they would appear coming from the viewpoint of the camera then superimposing the computer-generated images over the view of the user with regards to the real world.

On the other hand in terms of virtual reality, the computer would use the same math and sensors. But instead of locating the real camera in the physical environment, the position of the eyes of the user is located into the simulated environment. Once the users turn heads the graphics would as well accordingly react. Instead of compositing virtual objects as well as real scene, virtual reality technology would create a more interactive and convincing world for the users.
