Which Video Editor Works on M1 Chip

In November, Apple came up with the first Macs with an Arm-based M1 chip, launching new 2020, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Air models. The M1 Chip has received flattering reviews for its amazing efficiency and performance. This is a culmination of more than a decade of work of Apple on the chips that have been created for iPad and iPhone.

What is Apple’s M1 Chip?

It is the first System on a Chip (SoC) that has been designed by Apple. M1 Chip has been designed for use on Macs. It is the brand’s transition away from the Intel Chips which the company has been using since 2006 in their Mac Operating System.

M1 integrated various components that include GPU, CPU, SSD controllers, Enclave, Neural Engine, image signal processor, decode/encode engines, Thunderbolt controller with USB 4 support, and unified memory architecture. All of these power the various features of Mac.

Before these Macs used multiple chips for I/O, CPU, and security but Apple made an effort to integrate the chips. This is the reason M1 is efficient and faster than the previous Intel chips. Moreover, the unified memory architecture that Apple has included is also a prime factor as all of the technologies in M1 cable access the same data without swapping between multiple memory pools.

Apple has released the new MacBook Air 2020, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini with M1 chips. These replace the low-end machines in these lineups. At present M1 MacBook Air is the MacBook Air that Apple is selling. Nevertheless, Intel MacBook Pro and Mac mini are still available.

Buying 13-inch MacBook Air or Intel Mac mini isn’t worth purchasing at this point as the M1 chip outperforms the chips that are available in the portable devices of Apple. It can only be outclassed by desktop providers.

Apple has used M1 in the lower-end Mac and comparing the CPU performance, M1 has been able to beat even the high-end chips that have been used in the Intel Apple notebooks. The M1 chip has the fastest single-core performance. Also, the multi-core performance is not too far off from the desktop machines by Apple.

If you compare the Mac mini and 13-inch MacBook Pro models’ performance, you will notice that the M1 versions of the Macs offer much faster CPU speed. Buying a Mac mini and 13-inch MacBook Pro isn’t a good idea due to its inferior performance unless compatibility with 86 apps is a concern.

Other Macs are also going to transition to Apple Silicon chips in time to come. This is something that you need to keep in mind if you are buying a Mac device. At this point, all high-end desktops and notebooks of Apple offer superior GPU performance but that will change in time to come when the Apple Silicon chips are launched. So, when you are buying a Mac device, make sure it supports the ARM chip otherwise there are going to be unavailability and incompatibility issues.

Best Video Editor Supporting M1 Chip

Apple starting to make in-house processors for Mac to make it more efficient and faster than the previous models comes the as good news. However, with all this, there might be a little problem. Software that doesn’t support the new Apple M1 chip might not be compatible with the new Apple devices.

So, even when you are looking for a video editor to work on Mac, you need to make sure it supports M1 Chip. For your convenience, we have listed the top three video editing tools that will be compatible with the new Apple devices.

1.   Wondershare FilmoraX

The good thing is all versions of Filmora X which are above 10.1 are compatible with ARM. All Mac devices such as MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook Mini have been tested to ensure this.

FilmoraX’s state-of-art software can be used on the new and improved M1 Chip that Apple is going to use on MacBooks. The new version of FilmoraX 10.1 is only the beginning. The developers plan to upgrade the software and look forward to innovating it to make sure it is compatible with the latest ARM 64-bit architecture by Apple.

With Apple introducing new technological innovations, FilmoraX is going to match its products and services with updates to ensure that the users have a better video editing experience.

2.    M1-native Premiere Pro Beta

Adobe has also announced the launch of Premiere Pro native M1 support through the beta version of the Mac video editing software. Like Photoshop, Adobe is taking on a phased approach with the initial betas that just support a limited number of features.

The M1-native Premier Pro Beta includes the core editing support and functions for the most widely used codecs. Since Premiere Pro has been developed on a large codebase with the support of a wide range of media and functions. They are taking on a phased approach as they build out the native Apple M1 support.

Apple has said that it is going to be a two-year transition. It means that people will have to wait until 2022 for an Apple Silicon-based Mac Pro tower. It also means that until 2023, the Intel Mac is going to be supported by Apple, as well as third-party developers.

Nevertheless, at this point, unless you have a really compelling short-term need, it is better not to spend money on an Apple product with an Intel processor. Apple is going to focus on creating Apple Silicon machines and make sure that they run better. But Intel machines are going to get the required support for some time now. By moving to the SoC design, they can leverage things that they are good at.
