How do I reorder clips without overwriting other clips in Filmora?
Use ripple movement or create space before dragging a clip into a new position. Select the tracks that should move together, lock tracks that must stay fixed, and review the edit point after the move.
Why does dragging a clip overwrite another clip?
A standard drag can place the selected clip over media that already occupies the destination. Depending on the track and edit mode, the existing clip may be shortened, replaced, or shifted in an unexpected way.
Ripple editing changes the timing of later clips to make room, while a regular overwrite keeps the destination timing fixed. Choose the mode based on whether preserving the rest of the sequence is more important than keeping the current timecode.
How do you move picture and audio together?
Link the video and its production audio, or select the related tracks together before dragging. Lock background music or finished voiceover tracks if they should not move with the picture.
Use snapping to place the clip against an existing edit point, then play a few seconds before and after the move. This catches black frames, missing audio, and duplicate overlaps early.
Editing action |
What it does |
Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Overwrite move | Places a clip at the destination and may replace existing timing | You intentionally want the destination content replaced |
| Ripple move | Makes room and shifts later clips | The sequence should stay continuous |
| Linked or grouped move | Moves related picture, audio, and overlays together | Sync between multiple tracks must be preserved |
🤔 Note:
Make a project copy before a large restructure. A duplicate version gives you a clean rollback point if timing changes spread through the sequence.
