Note: This video tutorial is compatible with Filmora V11, V12 and V13 versions.
Adding AI Portrait
TIn the video, if you notice, all the five videos have a proxy file except for the fifth one. That's because we have turned on the option for automatically creating proxy files when the file is larger than HD resolution. Except for the fifth video, all other videos have a proxy.
How to Apply an AI Portrait to the First Subject?
First, drag the video with the first subject (the dancing girl) to the timeline. Then, follow the below steps.
- Go to Effects>Filmstock.
- Click on AI Portrait. You will get various AI Portrait options (9, to be precise). Note that all these options have a diamond on them. This means they are all paid features.
Select AI portrait
- Select an option and drag it to your video timeline. Here we have selected Human Segmentation. This option allows for separating the human from the background.
Select sample color
- Choose a sample color. Here, we have selected white. Then, lock your sample color by clicking on the lock-shaped symbol on the left of the video timeline.
On doing so, the subject got separated from the background.
How to Adjust the Edge Thickness?
While everything's fine, the edges may not seem smooth enough. You can modify the same with the below steps:
- Double-click on the video present in the timeline.
- Go to video>Effects>Video Effects.
- See if the Human Segmentation option is checked.
Adjust edge thickness
Now, adjust the Edge thickness. If you drag it to the left, the effect goes inwards. Similarly, if you drag it to the right, the effect appears outwards, or in simple terms, you are adding to the edge. The latter is suitable if you want to add colors to your subject. It's perfect for adding any paper animation on the side.
Adjust edge feature
You can soften the edges by moving the Edge feature slider and clicking on Ok. In the end, you will get something like the picture below. Here the subject is sharp, and the nearby areas are soft. This looks pretty good!
Final result
Additionally, you can add a neon effect to the video. For that, go to Effects, select the Glow option and drag it down to the video on the timeline.
Adjust neon effects
You can intensify the neon effects by double-clicking on the timeline video and adjusting the radius. If you want to see a before and after comparison, check and uncheck the Glow option.
If you want, you can make a copy of the video through Command C and Command V. Drag the copy to the timeline top and remove Edge Feather. Set the Edge Thickness back to normal and remove the glow.
Now, you will have the subject the way it was. Click on 5:33 for the comparison of subjects after adding AI Portrait.
How to Apply an AI Portrait to the Second Subject?
Our second subject has a similar color background as their clothing. Let's follow the same steps as we did for our first subject.
Go to Effects>AI Portrait, then select Human Segmentation.
Human segmentation
The subjects and the background will be separated perfectly. Now, let's adjust the edges.
Double-click on the video and adjust the sliders for Edge Thickness and Edge Feather.
Edge effect
While the edge effect will be applicable on the click, it will become tough to tell which part of the video belongs to the subject and which one belongs to the background.
To fix this, let's add another AI Portrait effect to the video. Here, we have selected the Human Border.
Adjust edge colors
Drag it down to the top of the video on the timeline. Double-click on AI Portrait and adjust the settings as per your liking.
Here, we have changed the colors for the edges. Choose a start and end color for the subject edges. In the video, we have selected green as the start color and blue as the end color.
You can also adjust the size. Drag the slider to the left if you want the edges to be thin. Similarly, drag it to the right if you want it to be thick. You can also blur out the edge or keep it sharp.
Modify effects settings
Next, adjust your opacity on a scale of 0-100. Also, change the gradient direction as per your requirement.
Adjust the Edge Thickness. If you decrease the thickness, the edge will move inwards. On the other hand, if you increase it, the thickness will move outwards. To increase the thickness within the edge, go to the size option and adjust it accordingly.
For the edge insides, you can adjust the sliders for Edge feathers. This feature can sharpen or add a feathered look to the edge insides.
You can also blur out the edge outsides by altering the sliders for the blur option.
How to Apply an AI Portrait to the Third Subject?
Let's take our next subject. Add the video to the timeline and choose an AI Portrait for the video. Here, we have selected the Neon Ring effect.
AI portrait on the third subject
If you notice, these neon ring lines are going around the subject. Double click on the video to adjust the settings for the same.
Adjust video effect thickness
At first, there is a thickness option, using which you can adjust the thickness of the effect.
Then there is the Zoom Start Node. Through this, you can choose how thick or thin the start of the effect is. Here, we have kept it at zero.
Adjust zoom start node
Just like this, you can also modify the Zoom End Node. It focuses on the end part of the effect.
Adjust alpha start node
The Alpha Start Node is useful for adjusting the color of the neon rings. Here, we have set it to 1. You can modify the slider as per your requirement. Just like Alpha Start Node, adjust the settings for Alpha End Node.
Adjust the eclosion
Next, adjust the duration as per how often or late you want the effects to appear. You can also adjust the Eclosion according to how bright and glowy you want the effect to be.
Modify the segment
For the Segment option, if you put it to full, you are closing the spaces in effect. So, it's recommended to keep it as default.
Adjust section length
Through the Segment length option, you can modify how you want neon patterns to appear. If you drag the slider to full, it will become one entire neon line. Similarly, if you keep it low, the neon effects will be more like dots, as mentioned below.
In the end, you can choose the color you want for the neon ring effect. You can also press the Reset button if you want to keep the settings that Filmora gave you.
How to Pair AI Portrait with Multi-Screen?
To add more oomph to the video, you can combine the AI Portrait with a good Multi-Screen effect. For that.
Add multi screen effect
- Go to Effects>Multi-Screen.
- Select any Multi-Screen effect you want. As per our AI Portrait, we have selected Split Screen 09.
- Drag it down to the timeline.
How to Apply AI Portrait to Fourth Subject?
You have multiple options of AI Portrait to apply to your subject. In our fourth subject, we tried other AI Portrait effects like:
AI portrait on subject 4
Human Glitch: For glitching effect on the video
Lightning Flash: To add a stream of lightning to the subject
Human Pixelate: To pixelate your subject
Human Segmentation: To clearly Identify the subject from the background And many others.
How to Apply AI Portrait to Fifth Subject (Tiger)?
Drag the video to the timeline and select an AI Portrait. Here, we have selected the Human Segmentation effect.
As you can see, the effect works partially on the subject. At times, it's applicable on the subject, and at times, it isn't.
