Adjust Video Colors in Filmora

Want to correct color, improve lighting, or give your footage a more polished look? Filmora provides several controls under Color > Basic for adjusting the appearance of a video. You can apply LUTs, correct white balance, refine lighting, sharpen details, and add a vignette. For a faster correction, Auto Color can automatically enhance the overall appearance of the footage.

Apply LUTs to Video

LUTs provide a quick way to give footage a predefined color look. Filmora includes built-in LUTs and also lets you import custom LUT files for a specific visual style.

Step 1. Open the LUT Settings

Import your video into Filmora, drag it to the Timeline, and select the clip. Open Color > Basic, then enable LUT to access the available options.

Step 2. Select and Adjust a LUT

Choose a LUT from the available options or select Load new LUT... to import your own. Adjust Strength to control how strongly the LUT affects the footage. When working with people, you can also enable Protect Skin Tones as needed.

Note: You can select None to remove the applied LUT. Filmora also lets you export the color grading of a selected clip as a .cube LUT and manage imported LUTs from Editing Presets > LUT.

Correct Video White Balance

The Color section helps correct white balance and unwanted color casts. You can use automatic correction or manually adjust the temperature and tint to achieve the desired color balance.

Step 1. Open the Color Settings

Select the video on the Timeline and navigate to Color > Basic. Enable Color to access its white balance controls.

Step 2. Adjust the White Balance

Use Auto for an automatic adjustment or the Eyedropper to set the white balance from the footage. For manual correction, adjust Temperature to warm or cool the image, then use Tint to refine the color balance.

Note: You can reset the adjustments when needed or use keyframes to change the Color settings at different points in the clip.

Adjust Video Lighting

If the footage appears too bright, dark, flat, or uneven, use the Light controls to refine its tonal appearance.

Step 1. Open the Light Settings

Select the clip and go to Color > Basic > Light. Enable Light to access the available lighting controls.

Step 2. Fine-Tune the Lighting

Adjust Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, Highlight, and Shadow based on the footage. Use these controls to refine the overall light level as well as the brighter and darker areas of the image.

Note: Filmora also lets you reset individual adjustments or add keyframes when the lighting needs to change over the duration of the clip.

Sharpen Video Details

The Adjust section provides the Sharpen control for increasing the apparent definition of details in your footage.

Step 1. Access the Adjust Settings

Select the video and navigate to Color > Basic > Adjust. Enable the section to access the Sharpen control.

Step 2. Adjust the Sharpness

Move the Sharpen slider to refine the level of detail in the footage. Use Reset to restore the original value or Save as Custom if you want to reuse the adjustment.

Add a Vignette Effect

The Vignette controls adjust the appearance around the edges of the frame and can help direct the viewer's attention toward the center.

Step 1. Apply the Vignette

Select the clip and open Color > Basic > Vignette. Enable the feature and adjust the available parameters until you achieve the desired edge effect.

Step 2. Review and Save the Settings

Check the effect in the preview window and continue refining it if needed. Select Reset to undo the adjustments or Save as Custom to preserve the settings for later use.

Enhance Video Colors With Auto Color

For a quicker correction, Auto Color automatically adjusts the overall appearance of the footage. You can control how strongly the correction is applied with Strength, making it useful as a starting point before further manual adjustments.

Step 1. Enable Auto Color

Select the clip on the Timeline and open Color > Basic. Enable Auto Color, then adjust the Strength slider to control the intensity of the correction. You can also click Save as Custom to keep the settings as a preset.

Step 2. Preview and Export the Result

Play the video to review the corrected colors and adjust Strength if needed. You can also refine the result using the other color controls. Once satisfied, click Export to save the finished video.

Note: Footage does not always come out with balanced brightness, contrast, and color straight from the camera. Auto Color in Filmora offers a quick way to improve these elements automatically, giving the clip a more balanced appearance before you move on to detailed color editing.
