Guide to Apply Track Matte in Filmora

Use the following steps to choose a matte source and control how it reveals the selected clip:

Step 1. Place the Clips on Separate Tracks

Import both media files and drag them to separate tracks on the timeline. Position the clip that will provide the matte information on one track and the clip you want to reveal or composite on another.

Step 2. Enable Track Matte and Select the Track

Select the clip you want to control, then open Video > Basic > Track Matte and enable the feature. From Select Track, choose the video track Filmora should use as the matte source.

Step 3. Choose Alpha Matte or Luma Matte

Open Composite Using and select the matte type. Choose Alpha Matte to reveal the selected clip according to the matte source's transparency, or Luma Matte to control visibility according to its brightness. Enable Reverse when you want to invert which areas are shown and hidden. Preview the composition and click Export when finished.
